Just a little spicy

This is what our waiter told us this evening as we ordered dinner. That was kind of like saying the immigrants that got off the ships at Ellis Island were only a “little smelly”. We could not decide if it was better to eat fast before the heat set in, or eat slowly and let the heat die between each bite. In the end we ate 80% of what we ordered and it was great.

This was a little different from our lunch. We went to Ellis Island and thought we should eat what our ancestors likely ate - french fries, a Coke, and a Pellegrino? Ha! As we sat at a picnic table in the shade, we imagined the millions who came to this island in hope of a better life. Not so different than those hoping to get in at our southern border today. Of the 12 million who made it to Ellis Island, only 2% got turned away. Wow?

And our day started with my return to the Statue of Liberty after 51 years. I do not remember if I thought it was cool back then, but I do remember my 5 year old brother wanted to know if the statue was a boy or a girl. I also remember sailing by the World Trade Centers back in 1973. While One World Trade Center is magnificent, it still looks like something is missing to me.
