Can’t Hurt Me

Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins

Wow! What a book! Actually what a story about overcoming. So interesting that a teammate gave me this book late in 2022. She was new to our organization and just knew that I read a lot of books. I put it in my queue, which is quite long, and thought I would get to it in 8-12 months. But then for some reason I started it at the beginning of January. By the middle of January I was only a chapter or so in, but knew that I was going to need an entirely different way of thinking for the rest of my life. Pain and suffering which had only lightly touched my life for 56 years, was here to to stay for the balance and be present every day.

David Goggins uses his life in this book to demonstrate that it is ALL a game in our minds. It is not about what others do or think. It is 100% about what we do and think. If we think we cannot, we won’t. He does not quite say we need to walk into the storm, but if an ice bath is good then make it colder and longer. If less meat is good, go all the way to zero meat products. If the doctors say they can go harder, then suck it up and do it. Goggins believes it is the mind we need to overcome, not the body.

The language in this book is that of a Navy Seal. The life story you would not wish on your worst enemy. If you are looking for the easy past, this book is not for you, If you are living by, “What else can I do?”, Goggins will show you. I was fired up before, now I really am the Storm.
