The Wager

My niece recommended this book many months ago. Since I’m such a cheapskate, I got it from the library with only a 21 day check out. Twice I failed to finish the book so had to wait in line for it to become available again. Ha!

Now that I finished it, I’m surprised I had never heard of this ship before. This is the real life story that inspired the story of Robinson Crusoe and influenced Herman Melville. It is Mutiny on the Bounty and Lord of the Flies all rolled into one. There don’t seem to be any “good guys”, mostly people reverting to our primal instincts to survive.

I do recommend. It is not gory or gross, and covers a little on politics and navigation back in the 1700’s.
