I Ride For: George

I Ride For: George

225 miles is what I did with George’s flag. Not too bad for a week. It helps that day 2 was my 102 mile ride last Saturday. Unlike the challenges of the last 3 flags I have done, this one went smooth and fast. My average for the week was 15.8mph, which is well above my year to date average.

The weather was good. The roads were good. The timing each day was good. Other than pushing myself physically I felt good for every ride.

Now I feel a little guilty (growing up in Holland, MI this is how we are taught to feel when things are good. Ha!). Here I am riding for George and there really was no pain or suffering involved. George is barreling cancer and I’m out goofing around on my bike. Well it is what it is.

George, I hope your week was a smooth and as nice as mine. Even though I did not suffer much while riding for you, I was thinking of your fight most of the time. (I may have listened to a podcast or 8 during the 14 hours I was riding for you.) I have not had cancer myself, but I have learned from others that the physical and mental suffering ebbs and flows. Hopefully this was one of those times where all felt well. And here is to a time when that is normal again.

SHINE!
