Route 66,000 - Here I Come!

The beginning of the beginning has begun. Now all that is left is to DO the plan. Which, of course, is the toughest part.

Last week I used Adventure Cycling maps and the App to lay out the course. I’ll be biking from the Santa Monica pier in Los Angeles to Grand Canyon Caverns in Arizona on iconic Route 66. If the weather is favorable (wind from the west and no rain), I should make the 450 miles in 6 days.

Today I dug out my bike packing list (I have not done one of these multi-day rides in 6 years). I found everything I needed and thought, “This is never gonna fit.” And like usual, it all fit. I got it in the box and bag in time to drop both off at UPS. (Bikeflights.com is great.) If all goes according to plan, my gear will arrive on Wednesday, I arrive on Thursday, and on Friday I start riding east.

I know it is late in the year, but during this trip & for the month of October I am fundraising. I’ve been doing this almost 2 decades—no need to miss this year. Unlike the past, however, I am fundraising for 3 organizations. My goal is to raise $22,000 for each.

Route 66 - 3 Organizations - $22,000 each. Hence FUNDRAISING $66,000. (I crack myself up.)
