Master and Commander

Finished: Master And Commander

For some reason I have gotten on a track of reading books that involve traveling the world on old tall ships. I am fascinated by how they did this 150+ years ago, the risks they took, and hardships they suffered.

I watched the movie years ago and somehow stumbled upon this book a few weeks ago. It was a good book and I will read the next one in the series. The main character, however, had a lot more faults than I expected. This probably made him more realistic. I hope that I could have his courage and cunning in battle without his reasons. Likely not going to happen. Rarely can someone be great at all aspects of life. My goal is to show flashes of brilliance and most of the time be average at everything. This is pretty easy because I have never been a rock star but I’ve always been a great back up singer.

If you like tall ships and understanding how they went into battle with no engine beyond the wind, I recommend. If you are looking for a love story where everyone wins, you should pass.
