I Ride For: Tad

I Ride For: Tad

I’ve been doing flags for years now. I usually ride for 100 miles with each flag, do a post like this, and then send the flag with a note to whoever it was for. I usually have an idea about what to write when I draw the flag. If not, then something always comes up during those 100 miles that fits.

I started this flag for Tad on August 15. I have ridden almost everyday since then with Tad. We traveled 563 miles and climbed 18,000’. We finished 3 books, 55-60 podcasts, and even listened to some music. I did not know what to write when I drew the flag and I am no closer today after all of this.

When I received this flag request earlier this year Tad was praying for a miracle. I found out in May that he had run out of time. So, I am really riding for Tad’s wife Ashley and their 3 young kids. What do I say? What do I write? What do I do? I have no personal experience. I did not know Tad. If their three kids came over right now all I could do is break out the legos.

I do, however, have a cool Mom who actually studies this kind of situation. I have read enough of her stuff that I did not need to ask her what to do. Then answer is ALWAYS just be there.

So Ashley, that is all I can give you today. I spent 36 hours with Tad. We had some fantastic rides. Some of the fastest in my life. The weather was awesome here in Michigan. Other than the last couple days there was no rain and the wind seemed to be generally with us. I must admit, I did not always remember he was back there, but whenever I got on or off the bike I knew exactly who I was riding with. While this flag is done I will continue to pray for you and your kids.

SHALOM!
