2023 Wood Pile Finished!
While I have biked on a trainer all of this year, my riding has not given me the physical/mental relief that it does when I’m on the road. Wood cutting in the last 8 weeks has done the trick! I thought I was on a mission to fill up my wood pile, but in reality the wood was on a mission to fill me up.
Many years ago I used to cut wood like this. I would spend hours cutting wood every week. I cut so much that rows of it started to rot. As I tried to find people to take it I realized that cutting wood really benefited no one. Sure I gave away some wood and some people may have even heated their house with it, but fire wood in Michigan is not super expensive. So, I cut back and limited myself to only 1 hour a week.
In the picture today you see me holding a flag. Teammates at ODL started this when I was diagnosed earlier this year. All over now there are flags with people praying, reading, mowing, etc “For Jeff”. Today I filled out one of those flags for myself. This is something I do with no one else in mind. No one needs it. No one would miss it. No one has asked me to do it. I just cut wood for the pure enjoyment it gives me. There is a log; I work on it; I stack it; then in the winter I burn in.
And this winter I have a lot to burn!
